Lets Knit Readers

Let’s Knit is one of my favourite magazines. As a new feature for the Bulldog Krafts website I will knit up a project each month.  Photographs courtesy of John McLoughlin (www.johnmcloughlin.co.uk)

Issue 35, October 2010

From issue 35 I chose two projects to knit up, but one of them, Jewel on page 49, has taken me a bit more time.  See below for details of Poppet and Cici

I’ve been knitting up Jewel in Super 10 Teal (please note that the Super 10 teal appears to be more green than the example in Let’s Knit). It looks wonderful. I haven’t got a full photo available yet but I do have a taster:

I have been knitting the largest size and knitting it a bit longer as I hope to give it to a very tall friend. This is being accomplished with 6 skeins (125g each) of Super 10. The tension with Super 10 is a bit looser at 20sts for 10cm. I would recommend either knitting with one size smaller needles (5mm and 4mm) OR you could move down 1 size. Remember that Super 10 is very resilient and will withstand regular washing machine and tumble dryer conditions (washing dark colours together is still recommended).

Super 10 in Teal is available, for a limited time, at a reduced price for the required amounts:

I have some advice on lace knitting with specific reference to this pattern available to download as a pdf:

I also have a beret with a feather and fan pattern which you can download for free!

On page 38 you will find the matching Poppet and Cici hat and scarf set in silver. This is a wonderful project as it knits up quite quickly and looks fantastic. Again Super 10 is a good alternative to the yarns used in the issue if you would rather use 100% cotton and still want the sheen and strength as well as softness. (Super 10 can be washed at 40 degrees C and has no problems with the tumble dryer.)

Hat & Scarf set in Super 10 & Light Grey

I knitted the hat in the largest size and the scarf as written and had yarn left over from one skein.
